Nevada Energy - Valmy Station
Two SM4 continuous mercury compliance monitors have been installed for Electric Power Research Institute ReACT Project at Valmy Station in Nevada. The SM4 monitors measure mercury concentrations at very low levels, ranging from from 0 to 100 nano grams per cubic meter. Samples are taken from test process streams at both inlet and outlet locations of the mercury reduction unit. This is a six-month project and shall demonstrate EPRI's new multi-pollutant removal technology.
The SM4 is the first instrument working on a thermo catalytic principle. It avoids wet chemical sample treatment. As a consequence, maintenance demand has been drastically minimized. The SM-4 is the only monitor that required no maintenance during the Trimble County Testing at a coal-fired utility wet stack. Also no carrier gases and no water were consumed. Data availability reached excellent 95%. The instrument uses straight extractive Hastelloy probe with no plugging or corrosion. Pleasingly the SM-4 costs 40% less than closest competition.
